Curriculum
The school curriculum is premised on the ethos of the school which is encapsulated in the verse;
And say: "My Lord! Increase me in knowledge."
Surah Taha – Verse 20
This noble verse from the Quran identifies the importance and status of knowledge in Islam. Knowledge in all its forms is considered valuable and worthy of pursuit for the betterment of humanity. The Prophet Mohammed ﷺ also encouraged the seeking of knowledge in the statement, “Seeking knowledge is mandatory on every single individual.”
Gatton Primary School is committed to delivering a broad, balanced and high-quality curriculum. We want to ensure all in the school become better at what they know and skills they have.
Our curriculum includes all the planned activities to promote learning, personal growth and development. It includes the formal requirements of the National Curriculum as well as a range of extra and wider curricular activities to enrich the experience of our children. It includes the ‘hidden curriculum’, or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible citizens, who can work and co-operate with others all the while developing their knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their true potential.
We promote the accumulation of knowledge, skills, behaviours, and experiences that a student can draw upon. This ‘cultural capital’ represents a key ingredient that our students will draw upon to helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.
We believe children’s personal development and growth is very important. We therefore aim to provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to develop a strong sense of moral purpose and respect for others. They are involved in shaping our provision, being encouraged to build a sense of responsibility for the school community and the environment.
