Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome to Year 1! This year is an exciting transition from the Early Years into Key Stage 1, where pupils begin to build strong foundations in core subjects while exploring the world around them. In Science, we’ll learn about our bodies, seasonal changes, everyday materials, animals, and plants. Geography topics include the four seasons, life in the city, and exploring places around the world, while History takes us on a journey through toys past and present, intrepid explorers, and castles.
Creativity will flourish through Art projects such as colour creations, paper art, and the work of Yayoi Kusama, as well as Design Technology projects like moving pictures and castle structures. Computing will introduce pupils to digital creativity through activities such as TV chef videos, digital art, and detective work. Music will include drumming and singing, adding rhythm and fun to learning.
In Maths, pupils will develop number sense, explore shapes, and build confidence in addition and subtraction. Times tables practice begins here, laying the foundation for future fluency.
Enrichment activities include local walks, museum visits, science workshops, and creative performances. Physical education will feature gymnastics, athletics, and team games to promote fitness and coordination.
Year 1 is a year of discovery, creativity, and growth. We look forward to working together to make this a successful and memorable year for every child!
